Who has been to New Zealand

My husband and I were talking about possibly going to New Zealand to visit his father.  we would be taking the kids and we are not big adventure people.  if you have been to New Zealand what is there to do specifically on the North Island because his father lives in Auckland. Oh and we would be going during our summer their winter.  And how long would you recommend going for.

Re: Who has been to New Zealand

  • There are heaps of 2 -3 day side trips you can take from Auckland. I don't have kids but you can read my blog here.

    The highlights for me:

    • White Island/Mt Maunganui
    • The kiwi farms in Bay of Plenty
    • Taupo
    • Rotaroua
    • The Waitamo glow worm caves
    • Bay of Islands

    In Auckland the highlights were:

    • Waiheke island (wineries)
    • Mt Rongitoto
    • Auckland museum (great section on polyonesian history)

Be prepared for rain in NZ during the winter, its cool but not cold.
