adopting a cat with two dogs at home...

We've been considering adopting a cat- we have two dogs (both around 5 years old) who have literally been around cats in the home from the day they came home as pups until about a month ago (when our last cat passed).

I'm not at all worried about them with a new cat, but I am worried about a new cat with them. I'd love to bring home a cat that's a couple of years old, but my H thinks it'd be better to bring a younger kitten into the mix so it could grow up with the dogs. I just don't want to bring a cat home and have her be miserable and scared of the dogs.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

Re: adopting a cat with two dogs at home...

  • Why not find a cat that is being fostered with dogs?  We always test our foster cats with the dogs just to see how they do.  We also raise foster kittens with them so they're used to the dogs.  I think a kitten or adult could get along with dogs fine.

    Good idea- thanks!
