H and I were planning a trip to Europe with our tax refund money to celebrate our anniversary in November. Because of his work and my work and weather and flights, we've bumped the trip back to January (boo!) We're planning the trip through Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. I'm so excited to see all these amazing places and spend some time in the Alps, but it's going to be FREEZING cold.
Does anyone have recommendations for cute clothes that will be warm and not take up an absurd amount of space/weigh a lot in my luggage? I'm thinking layering will be key, especially so I can mix and match outfits over the week and a half that we're there, but I'm just not really sure what some good staples for that kind of dress are.
Thanks!
Re: Cold Weather Clothes
Well, living in Wisconsin this is something that I do know about. Whenever I need to pack warm clothes I always go with a black or cream sweater. One that is a medium thickness. You can easily dress a plain sweater down with jeans, or even sweatpants. But, it is easy to dress it up a little too with nice pants or a skirt. You can also add accessories to add color or make it more formal. Bring some nicer jewelry. or even scarves can dress it up or down. I have a black sweater from Old Navy that I seriously need to replace because I got it for like $15 and have brought it everywhere over the last couple winters. If you have a lot of brown bottoms I would go with a cream.
That is my advice. Also, leggings. If it is cold enough even a light pair of leggings under jeans is a life saver. And, you can also wear them with skirts or dresses if it isn't THAT freezing. And bring a pair of leather boots. That is something else you can dress up or down.
Have fun! Your trip sounds amazing. I am having some major jealousy issues over here.
Make sure you tell us about it!
One of my closetst friends is stationed in Germany. It gets cold. Pack a pair of thermals if you get cold easily and just in case. Warm tights and leggings under pants, dresses and skirts are most likely a must. I would bring just one pair of nice earrings and necklace since most likely you will only wear them when you dress up. I vote for a few different scarves and a couple cute hats. The head is one of the most important places to keep warm.
Check what the weather is like over there and pack appropriately.
I bet you will have tons of fun. A little jelous.

I also want to add in to make sure you wear (or carry) your bulky stuff on the plane. Like, boots or a heavier jacket. It may be a hassle, but at least it'll save space in your luggage for other items!

UnderArmor
It is your key for layering. They have a lot of shirts that are super thin but will keep you warm. DH & I use them for our winter camping trips and for snowboarding.

Thanks girls!
I have some UnderArmor shirts for running, etc, but I never would have thought to wear them to keep warm. Genius!
