Favorite Place to Vacation
DH and I are (relatively) new to Michigan and want to take a little vacation towards the end of summer. We don't want to go tremendously far and would like it to revolve around a lake (not necessarily a boat, just a lake with a beach). Any ideas? Also, we have a 20-month-old son who loves the water.

Traverse City http://www.traversecity.com/things-to-do-3/
Harbor Springs - The Inn at Bay Harbor has Lake Michigan right behind it and it's a beautiful hotel. http://www.innatbayharbor.com/
Otherwise if you just want to do day trips there are plenty of Metro parks with beaches in Michigan. Not sure what part of Michigan you are in but there's one in about every part of Michigan. http://www.metroparks.com/#
Traverse City is good. Grand Beach and Sugar Beach are both great hotels that are family friendly.
I'd also recommend Grand Rapids/Saugatuck.
