Celiac disease & BCP?
So it looks like my problems very possibly could be Celiac Disease, which is what I was afraid of to begin with. My blood test came back positive, and I'm still waiting for the results of the biopsies.
But a friend of mine said that she read somewhere that there has been a link between Yaz/Yasmin/Ocella and celiac disease? Has anyone else seen this info? I have been looking and didn't find anything, but that's the BCP that I'm taking. And I don't want to take it anymore if it could be making me sick.
Re: Celiac disease & BCP?
I haven't heard about that but I know that BCP does cause stomach issues. When I was on it years ago I wasn't very good at taking it every single day. Some days I would have to double up and on those days I would get nauseas. Once I had to leave work because it got so bad I thought I was going to throw up. I haven't taken BCP since. I regret taking BCP and think that I may not have had so many stomach issues if I wasn't on it. It's known to deplete your body of B vitamins.
If you do have Celiacs I would suggest that you avoid dairy at first since a lot of people with Celiac can't tolerate that either.
Sorry to hear that you have celiacs. It is perfectly manageable thankfully. It will take getting used to but more and more places are catering to those that are gluten intolerant. Heads up when you cook gluten free pasta, you don't have to cook it for as long as normal pasta.
Thats scary that the bcp could cause it. Definetly tak to your doctor about ut and switching to another brand or kind of bcp.
Update on the BCP thing, I think my friend misunderstood was she read. There isn't a link that I can find, but there can be gluten in medications, so that could be why some women with CD have issues with BCP. I decided to go off birth control for now, just in case it contains wheat.
I've been GF for 5 days now, and I don't feel 100% but I do feel better. The GF stuff can get expensive, and I'm not getting any of that stuff yet.. but that's not to say that I won't. Right now I'm basically following the Paleo Diet with rice.
Well that is good news and bad news. Good that it wasn't the bcp that caused this. Bad because some meds have glutten.
Many Asian foods use rice pasta and rice as their staple. The only gluten things I would worry about is if they cheep out and use wheat noodles or gluten soy sauce. You can buy soy sauce that is gluten free and it tastes just the same from the market.
It will take time for your body to heal itself and get back to normal.
I have Celiac Disease also. I currently take Yasmin and have no problems. I have read online that it is gluten-free, but best to double-check with the company and your doctor.
Good luck--the diet gets easier!
