Please tell me

Someone else thought the media coverage was extremely biased.

FWIW....I voted 3rd party and I'm not trying to stir things up again.

Re: Please tell me

  • It depends on what network you watch.  Fox is notoriously "conservative" whereas MSNBC is a very pro-liberal network.

It's very interesting to watch how the two networks report the same story.

  • I'm mostly talking about throughout the election process, not just last night.  Sunday's paper just got me angry b/c it was soooooooo biased towards Obama and even before election results were in I got the vibe from ALL the networks they were all for Obama.  Maybe its just the anchors.  I dunno.

  • Like i said, Fox is ultra conservative and last night, before the results were complete, they were saying that it would have to be a miracle for McCain to win at that point.

He was going to have to win Oregon, California or Washington and it was HIGHLY unlikely that would happen.

The reporters said "if that happen I would say, well I wouldn't have a comment because I would be passed out on the floor"

I thought it was funny, but they certainly were not "FOR" Obama.

    Very interesting.

OH my mom said that our Huntsville Times paper is MUCH LESS biased than the Portland newspaper, The Oregonian.  pretty interesting

  • I honestly hadn't ever paid attention but my dad said pretty much what Sarah said.
  • Yep, the media has been very biased through this election. It was so obvious, especially on NBC.

  • The media is always biased.

  • As a member of the media and a newspaper reporter, I think it's worth clarifying what paper you are talking about or say if you are talking about the national television news media.

I do think there is a definite difference between print press and national TV news stations like MSNBC or Fox News.

It's hard not to get offended when people say the media is always biased when myself and every other reporter I work with strive to be fair and not let our beliefs shine through. I cannot put political stickers on my car, put signs in my yard. I cannot volunteer for campaigns, all because of my job. I was probably pushing it putting an Obama siggy on this website, so I've taken it down.

Some of my coworkers even declined to vote because they felt it was going the "extra mile" toward being non-biased. I did vote, because I felt it was my civic duty.

So please watch out before criticizing other's professions. Thanks.

    ditto.

  • There was actually a chapter in my gov't class I took a few years ago on the national news networks and their being biased. I think it's just expected.

An observation I'd like to make is that there were a lot of celeb hatemonger (for lack of a better word) blogs that were EXTREMELY, EXTREMELY biased and weren't even apologetic about it. One would think that since "professional" blogs have become another appendage of the media, they would need to uphold the same standards the rest of the media do.

Lydia, I would like you to know that I haven't read the circulation you work for, but you have seemed very fair even in your conversations on here about the election :) I just thought I'd share.

  • IMO - most media is biased to the left, and Fox is actually more centrist.  It just seems like they are more conservative because they actually present both sides.  They also have more conservative commentators.

Take a look at this chart from the Project for Excellence in Journalism.  It's pretty interesting.

I'm talking about it all...and the paper was the B'ham News.  Suuuuure they listed both candidates (and ONLY those candidates), but it HEAVILY leaned towards Obama.  I know there are some media people that work very hard to be unbiased.  My DH works for a news station and he works very hard to be unbiased.  He was also sent to cover things about Obama and nothing for anyone else. He was sent to cover the Obama headquarters election night and was not thrilled to be there but he did it and covered it w/o any bias.  I'm not criticizing you or your work. It was an observation from my own eyes and ears and wondered if people felt the same.
