fleas at a kennel

last week I had to leave my dog at a kennel, he's 10 and it's the 1st time I've done this.  The past few days I've noticed he's very itchy and I'm starting to get a little itchy around my ankles.  Of course I'm thinking fleas, but when I checked him I didn't see anything.  I gave him a flea bath anyway and I'll keep an eye on things.  If he does have fleas should I call the kennel?  It seems like something they can't really prevent, but I don't know if I should tell them as a courtesy so they can clean things out, or if it's something I would complain about.

Re: fleas at a kennel

  • Do you use topical flea and tick preventative?

It is typically the owners responsibility to use such things prior to kenneling. Everywhere I've ever used its a requirement, much like vaccinations.

There will, of course, be fleas on some dogs at a kennel. You can't avoid it 100%. But you can protect your dog from getting them by using things such as frontline or advantix.
