Re: Our house!
My Blog:Through My Eyes
Thanks guys! And even though our area is considered a pricier suburb...it is still a suburb and no where near that expensive =]
Baby on Board - My Blog
Thanks...funny, that's what someone else commented on my album!
Thanks, I'm really happy with the way the blue came out. I wouldn't really say that I am doing things on a "whim". I guess growing up my mom was always big into interior decorating (painting, etc.) so I picked up a lot from her, as well as practical skills (like painting, etc.). It really isn't that hard though, so you might be surprised at what you can do =]
H and I have been in our house for a year and a half now, so I've either been planning these things for awhile or have done them awhile ago. I guess when it comes to projects, I like to take my time. For example, I've been looking for the "right" clock for that wall for over a year now.
I guess as far as projects, it helps to do most of your planning first, starting from the top down (think of it like wedding planning!) I think about the "feel" I want in the room, then the color scheme I want. Then the big things like furniture, since I feel like you have a lot less selection with say, a couch, then you do artwork you can hang on the wall to compliment said couch. Once the big pieces are in, then I think about the little details. And like I said, I won't buy something I don't love just for the sake of having something...I'll wait for the right piece to come along. That's another key, too - when buying stuff, think "where is this going to fit in?" instead of "OMG I love this thing!" but then when you get home it doesn't go well with anything you have.
And with Pinterest, Houzz.com, etc. it makes it SO easy even for people who don't feel like they can put something together from scratch. And inspiration is everywhere if you look for it! I have a page torn from a catalog that has 3 random throw pillows on it pinned up in one of our guest bedrooms - just because I liked how all the colors looked together.
So don't be afraid to try stuff - and if you ever need an opinion you know where to come
Beautiful home! You've done a great job!
Thanks, but I can't take all the credit for the landscaping, haha. We bought a house that was 5 years old, so most of it was already there. It's actually a thorn in my side, because whoever did it really didn't think about what they were planting/where. A LOT of the plants are way too big for the area they are planted in, so I have to keep hacking them in half so that it looks reasonable. And in a lot of the beds, they planted really short stuff up against the house, and then really tall stuff in front of it so that you can't see anything! Hopefully next summer I can start adding & moving stuff around so that it looks better and so that plants that are getting fried in full sun can be more in the shade like they are supposed to.
You and your husband have a beautiful house! I love everything you've done with it!
