What did you think of 50 Shades of Grey?

I'm about to start it! (The first one) and I'm so excited! I just wanted to know what you girls thought of it :) I'm honestly not a huge reader, the book REALLY has to captivate me. And I'm hoping this one does!

Re: What did you think of 50 Shades of Grey?

  • I'm an avid reader and enjoyed it. I know alot of people on here disliked it. I read all three books in about a week and a half. I hope you enjoy it!
  • I've only read excerpts and it's poorly written Twilight-fanfiction porn. You can find much better erotica out there, I assure you.

  • I love to read, but I wouldn't touch 50 Shades of Gray with a ten foot pole.
  • Honestly, I enjoyed it for what it is--exciting. I wasn't expecting an extremely well-written classical work of fiction, I was expecting it to be sexy. And I was not disappointed. ;) Have fun & be sure to bookmark the good parts & accidentally leave them on the coffee table for your man to come across. haha.
  • It is not well written but I couldn't put it down.  Even when I was nodding in disapproval at the main character, I still kept reading.

  • i loved  it
  • I hated it. First of all I thought it was horribly written. The author was extremely repetitious and continuously used the same words over and over again. Holy crap, trouble crap, triple crap, holy Moses. Blah blah blah. Secondly the I thought the main character was pathetic. I hated Ana. She orgasmed at the drop of a hat and kepted flushing at stupid reasons, and if I had to hear her refer to her inner goddess again...  Oh dear. I also didn't find it sexy at all. I don't know. Maybe I'm just a whore so I'm just immune to Ana's sex life, but was this book written by a teenager?  Also did anyone else find the tampon scene disgusting?  I'm a married woman and I would never want my Dh doing that. I could only handle reading the first book so does anyone know if the second or third books are more tolerating?  I am a huge reader. I love reading, but this just wasn't the book for me. I don't know if it was the characters, plot, or the fact that grey continuously made fun of Ana's vw beetle and I love my beetle so I automatically saw him as a controlling ass. :)   I do have a friend who loved this series so it may just be me. I hope you enjoy it much more than I did.
  • If you like Fabio, you'll love Christian Grey.  I think this book gave women something to dream about.  I personally didn't like it because of the lack of knowledge the series gave on the toys in the books.  S&M and Fetish play can be dangerous if not done properly and these book does not give that impression.  I guess what I'm saying, you are looking for an erotic outlet then this is a good beginning.  If you are interested in trying any of the scenes in the book,.....please do your research!  Of course, our store is here if you have any questions or to purchase some of the products talked about.  http://www.naomisays.net/Naomi_Says_Store.html

    Enjoy the Read!

  • I didn't like the book.  I read about half way thru and didn't finish it.  It was unrealistic, and very poorly written.  I don't understand why so many women are in love this it.
  • Just finished the first one, took me longer to read than what I thought it would and half way through I didn't think I would bother with the rest of the books but the end made me want to know how these characters develop more.

Chances are, you know someone you could borrow it from instead of buying it too :)

  • I absolutely am in love with this trilogy! It made my sex life sky rocket!! I couldn't keep my hands off the book or my husband!

  • I thought the books were ok for what they were.  I definitely didn't read them thinking that I was going to get hit in the face with amazing writing and story telling.  Towards the end of the first book I actually got tired of all the sex scenes.  I wanted a more substantial plot.  The second book I thought was the best and both the second and third book actually had a story line rather then sex, sex, sex, and more sex.

I do have to agree that the "Hmms" and the author constantly referring to the characters vagina as "my sex" irritated the hell out of me.

Haha! I am only half way through and I totally know what you mean about the repetition of words and I know exactly what you're saying. I'm a slow reader- like I said I'm only half way through the first. It's definitely not the best ever but I don't think it's the worst either. It's entertaining me. I'm not sure what to think of it yet lol, but I was happy to hear all your ladies' opinions! Thanks!

  • I read it though I had to skip large parts because it is so incredibly poorly written. Read the crossfire novels instead- practically the same story but much better writing.

  • Nothing to say that hasn't already been said. Poorly written. And as a member of the bdsm community at large, the author CLEARLY has no freaking idea (or firsthand knowledge) of what she's talking about :) It honestly reminded me of something a 14 year old boy would write in his journal while he's wanking. just godawful. There are so many better erotica stories out there!

*This* The book just romanticises an abusive relationship and brings uneducated and completely misinformed people into a very serious lifestyle. I hope this 50 shades of crap phase ends soon.

  • 50 Shades of Snoozefest.

  • The lead character is an abusive tool, and abuse=/= BDSM. If reading BDSM erotica gets you going, try reading Anne Rice's "Sleeping Beauty" trilogy.
