I found out last week that I have Celiac Disease. Do you have any idea how much gluten is in FLIPPING EVERYTHING? Most of my lipsticks are not gluten free. At least the YSL lipsticks that I bought are (at least they look like they are. I haven't heard back from the company yet).
Apparently, NARS is 100% gluten free though, just in case anyone has a similar problem. I also have to switch to a gluten free facial cleanser. Good news there is that Boscia & Bliss Spa are all gluten free (which is what I'm using now) and most of Juice Beauty is gluten free.
Anyone know of any other lipsticks that are GF besides Bare Escentuals, NARS, Red Apple, and YSL? Smashbox USED to be... until they reformulated everything. Ugh.
Re: Have to throw out all my lipstick...
I am so sorry. I did not know that gluten was used in cosmetics!
How did you find out that you have Celiac? What were you symptoms? I keep hearing it from different poeple, different walks of life that they are diagnosed having Celiac and I would like to know what I need to look for?
I apologize in advance for the tl;dr, so kudos if you get through it.
The symptoms of Celiac are super vague, and different for everyone. I was getting a lot of cramping and pain whenever I would eat... a lot of bathroom problems (which are very TMI but I'd be happy to PM you if you really want to know details), fatigue. The big thing that made me question if it was CD or not was I kept belching all the time. Anytime I would eat anything, I would belch like a man. I have a friend with CD, and that's what happens to her.
A few other main symptoms that I didn't have were a rash that looks like psoriasis or eczema. I have had eczema in the past, so it's possible that was actually my CD. Also some people have extreme weight loss. My weight has been very consistent, but I had problems gaining weight as a child and I'm about 6 inches shorter than I was supposed to be, and stunted growth can be a sign as well. Also there are links between Celiac Disease and infertility.
I had an incident on the 4th of July where I got very sick, and from that moment until last week I couldn't eat anything. I was eating the BRAT diet, plain egg noodles with just a little butter or EVOO, and that was it. The funny thing is, I was eating all stuff that was making me sicker (except for the BRA part of the BRAT diet)
As far as gluten in cosmetics... it's in skincare, makeup, shampoo, body wash... and some people are so sensitive that they need to switch EVERYTHING. But the big things that you should change are lip products (for obvious reasons), shampoo, and facial cleanser. I haven't had any other adverse reactions to any of my other cosmetics, so I won't throw those away just yet. I love my Urban Decay eyeliner too much to just toss it.
This exactly
