Winter Getaway - Riviera Maya Mexico

I'm hoping this will be the year we get to go on a nice winter vacation - we live in Wisconsin (hello Snow & Cold!).

I've been dreaming of staying in Riviera Maya for years.

Anyone been, recommend an all inclusive, things to do? DH and I aren't huge shoppers, not fond of large crowds and like to be a bit active on vacation.

  • dh and i have been to cancun and/or  RM every december-so about 10 times now. we have a timeshare up in cancun and sometimes stay at other places for antoher week.

for all inclusives we've stayed at the occidental xcaret-the royal section. it was great. this year we'll be staying at the royal suites yucatan which is the special adults only quiet part of the massive palladium complex. as with the xcaret-private pool, restaurant, beach are etc... fyi-royal suites yucatan was jsut awarded the 2012 tripadvisor travelers choice award.

as for things to do the list is endless. what do you like or not like to do?

Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:

  • Iberostar Grand.  Amazing adults only resort.  Loved everything about it.  It's a little on the pricey side but worth every dime.  Check out the photos on tripadvisor.com.

  • Excellence Riviera Cancun

We like to do just about anything. We have Harley's but aren't in the mood to cruise around bar hopping. Anything adventurous - cenotes, snorkel, Tulum, pretty much anything. Not in to doing the things we can do at home : spa, golf, etc.

Well, there's certainly enough cenotes and snorkeling around. tulum is close to royal suites as is sian kaan-a great nature preserve. coba is also not far. chichen itza is a bit further and ek balam is very far-about 4 hours. sometimes people split a day between tulum inteh AM and xel-ha in the PM-it's a great snorkeling park. there's also xplor which is a newer adventure parkw ith ziplines, cenotes etc...

i wouldnt cruise around on harleys bar hopping in mexico anyway.............
