My thoughts..I should be in bed

Ah I really wanted to reply to this today but i was too busy at work today. Sorry gals, no more politics talk from me after this.

Anyway, I voted for Obama, I did my research for many weeks, watched all debates and rally's that took place in the Orlando area and kept an open mind during all. I went in to vote with 2 sheets full of pro and con's and who i was for and against on all canadates from the president to amendments. I was very prepared to vote(I believe if you are going to voice or vote for something you should go in educated)

Although I feel no one should have to explain themselves if they dont want to without being called uneducated, to explain why i voted for who i did could span many many pages citing the difference in tax policy, foreign policy but i wont do that. What it boils down to is with a democratic controled congress the only way to get any change in this country which we so need is to vote in a democratic president, Once you strip away all of the campagin promises, all the things they want to do, all the things they say they can do what it really comes down to is what can actually be done. A republican president doesnt share the democratic ideas of congress so there would be constant conflict and we would still be in gridlock. How can we get change in this country, and i believe, the person i voted for could. I would feel bad for people who vote for a president believing they say they can do everything they promise, that NEVER happens. I believed that we needed a different direction in our counrty, without support from congress a president really cant do much but start a war and veto anything congress puts through and we've already had too many of those years. I do agree that Obama doesn't have as much experience I would have liked, but he will have alot of help. I would rather that than no change. (even if that change is a slow process) I am really happy that the elections are over though so i can catch up on some reading and TivoBig Smile

ALSO: I hope to see everyone at the GTG!

Re: My thoughts..I should be in bed

  • Autumn,  you're right, nobody feel the need to justify their vote to anyone.

I also marked my ballot for Obama, and it wasn't a hasty decision. I have been a supporter of his pretty much since he announced his candidacy, but I also kept an open mind (even considered voting for the Green party candidate). I knew I wouldn't be voting Republican. Whether or not it's the President's power to do so, the pro-life standpoint, McCain's take on the war (my sister is a veteran of the Iraq war, and I talked with her about her views and took them into consideration in addition to my research), his stance on healthcare...all of them went against what I thought was best for the country. And while I don't necessarily think Obama's positions are perfect, they aligned more closely with what I believed would be best for the country. I hate to say it, but Palin as McCain's running mate also affected my vote. If you want to talk about under qualified, she can't be left out of the equation, and no, she wasn't running for President, but I would felt a hell of a lot better having Biden second in line to the Presidency.

That said, anyone who voted for McCain, it was your right to do so and I will never ask you to justify why you voted the way you did. It was your choice to make.

And that is the last I will be posting about politics, because quite frankly after the volunteering, talking, researching, news-watching, voting, and watching the election reporting last night, it's over and I'm ready to move on. (And would have been whichever way it turned out...not much we can do or say now, the majority has spoken!)

[Edit] I also wanted to add that those of you who feel nervous or unsure since your candidate wasn't elected, I get that. I know I felt that way in 04 when Bush was reelected.
