So we inherited a very beautiful and traditional dining room set from DH's grandmother. His grandfather actually cross stitched the seat covers himself. They're in great condition, dark blue with multi-colored flowers in the middle. Kind of like this:
They're not exactly my style--but they have sentimental value, and I think we can make them work...although I'm not sure how.
I don't want the dining room to be super formal. Any ideas on how to make these work in our more casual style?
Re: Dining room decor help
I would pick a few colors from the cross stitch that you like and use them as inspiration for the colors in the room - paint color, drapes, tablecloths, etc. We don't have a super formal dining room. It is a mix of handed down wood furniture and crappy off-white carpet that I hate (but that we won't replace until the kids are less messy.
I chose a seat cover fabric that I liked, then coordinating drapes, tablecloths and and paint color. Honestly, the seat fabric is not a strong feature in the room since the chair seats are usually under the table, but I always like to have one "inspiration" piece of art or fabric in every room to help guide the scheme.
