removing mirror wall

we have a floor to ceiling wall in our living room, covered in a mirror.  we have no idea how we are going to go about removing it.  any suggestions

Re: removing mirror wall

  • you have a floor to ceiling wall, eh, you don't say?

  • Is it one large mirror or lots of smaller ones?

I ask b/c we just removed the mirrors covering a wall in the bedroom of the house we purchased.  The mirrors were small, about 12" by 12" and hung with double sided tape.  We used a putty knife to lift the corner / side of the mirror and it just popped off of the wall.  We had to patch the wall where the tape was b/c it tore the drywall when we tried to get them off.

    Good luck!

  • Yeah. It could be a half wall, though.

Generally you can put duct tape over the mirrors in a star burst pattern and then remove them. If they shatter, the tape is supopsed ot help hold them together. Put down drop clothes and cover your entire path out of the house with drop clothes too. Have a shop vac ready.

Mirror walls are kind of "in" right now. There are some designs you can do with them. Have you checked out Pinterest?

  • MommyLiberty is right - mirrored walls are in right now and if done the right way, they can look fantastic. Personally, I would leave it and work around it.

If not, tape up the mirrors at ML suggested and have at it.

I don't care how "in" mirrored walls maybe, they will always be dated to me. That sucker would be down so quick.

  • we had a large mirror in our old house- 6X8 and stuck on the wall with an adhesive.  We used a glass cutter to cut it into managable pieces as we removed it.    Using heavy duty gloves also.  Becareful- mirror removal can be dangerous.

Oh, I know what you are talking about.  If you take it down, make sure you wear protective gloves and such because it can be very dangerous!
