Re: *geojam*

  • Oh! It went so well!  I had so much fun, I absolutely LOVE it!!  I'm working after school care with kindergarten through 5th graders, except Kindergarten doesn't start until next week, so the youngest kids yesterday were starting 1st grade.  However, I do have a story :-)  Right at the tail end of it, when everyone's parents were picking them up, something happened that I couldn't believe was happening to me on my first day.

As soon as we get outside to play on the playground, 1st Grader asks to get a drink of water. We send him in with 3rd Grader and tell them to come right back.  I notice they haven't come back yet after 20 minutes (I was surprised the head teacher didn't notice this sooner).  We send in 5th grader to find them.  10 minutes later, 5th grader is back but 1st and 3rd grader are still missing.  I ask 5th grader where they are and she tells me this huge long story about how they couldn't get inside, then they got lost, blah blah blah.  The head teacher is talking to a parent so I take charge of the situation.  I tell 5th grader to go back inside and come back WITH 1st and 3rd grader this time.  She comes back with 3rd grader, but 1st grader is still missing.  I ask her where he is and she said his stomach was hurting. I think to myself "Oh, F**K".  The head teacher told me to go in and check on him.

He's in the bathroom with his clothes sprawled all over the floor, and he comes out of the stall wearing nothing but a tshirt and socks.  He tells me he had a poopy accident in his pants.  I tell him it's ok and to relax, I ask him if he's cleaned up.  "I don't know how." I ask him if he can still wear his pants.  "Yes, but they're covered in poop."  I have a dilemma. If I take care of this myself, I'm a superhero. But, I have no clue how to tackle something like this.  I can change a messy diaper, but I don't know how to clean a kid not wearing a diaper, and no change of clothes within arm's reach.  Of all the things in my training, there was NOTHING on cleaning up accidents, or even poopy ones at that.  I decide this is way out of my league, and I tell the kid to hang in there while I get the head teacher.  Oh. My. Goodness.

I would hardly call this a bump in my day though, because it provided me with the BEST first day of work story.  Perhaps ever. ;-)
