Indianapolis Restaurant Recs
I'm from the Cincy board and I need some good recs on a place to take my mom for dinner in Indy that is near Conseco Fieldhouse. Something nice, but not terribly expensive or dressy. Thanks!

Re: Indianapolis Restaurant Recs
Hmm.. chain type places in that area fitting your request;
Hard Rock Cafe, in the mall there is Nordstrom Cafe (open for lunch and into 8 or so for dinner), Alcatraz Brewery (I'm not a fan... but to each her own), Champps, PF Changs, Rock Bottom,
As for local places...Vito's on Penn, Harry & Izzy's, Claudaguah Irish Pub.. hmm.. .help me out girls...
Then Conseco actually has a sit down type place in it if you are there for a game or event.
Have fun while you're here!
getting around Indy isn't too bad and I think there are some options on Mass Ave like Yatz (cheap, but good Cajun) and Bazbeaux's Pizza that could be nice.
The little restaurant in Conseco is fun too.
My first rec. would be Dunaway's since it's unique, but it's expensive
I am probably posting a bit late, but couldn't resist...
Claddaugh Irish Pub is a chain (not a locally owned place as a previous poster mentioned). And McNivens is a Scottish restaurant (not Irish). BUT they're both good! Other places on Mass Avenue are Aesops Table, Agio, Scholar's Inn. Little pricier/fancier. My absolute favorite is Bazbeaux's Pizza. They've got things other than pizza though. The greek salad is delicious. I crave Bazbeaux's now that I've moved to Wisconsin...
Iaria's italian is also good. Iaria's and all the places on Mass avenue are not walking distance. I'd drive to those.
As far as places right in the core of downtown, there's Champps Sports bar (cool vibe if you're heading to a sporting event), Weber Grill Restaurant, McCormick & Schmicks, Ram, Palomino among the others mentioned. You could even go to Johnny Rockets in the mall which I think is always good because of their milkshakes, despite being in the food court. Bertolini's in the mall is also good.
