I HIGHLY recommend the book "Resume Magic." Cheesy title aside, it is extremely helpful especially if you feel like there are certain aspects to your current position/situation that are causing companies to overlook you. When I was laid off from a company in 2008 they gave me this book. I felt like this was kind of rubbing the situation in my face and I figured my resume was fine as it was thank you very much, but after searching for a job for quite some time with no success, I finally picked it up. Upon reading that book, I realized that the resume I thought was so awesome was doing me no favors whatsoever. Today I also help a lot of my friends with their resume writing and formatting using the skills and tips I learned from this book.
