My dog just turned 5 months old, we have had him since he was 8-9 weeks old. He is always crated at night andw hen we are gone and he has NEVER cried in the crate. He didn't even cry on his very first night. Well last night my husband put him to bed as usual (we keep to a routine) and when DH got upstairs Cooper started crying. DH went back and took him out to go potty. Cooper peed a little, DH put him back in the crate. About 10 minutes later Cooper was crying again. DH went downstairs and put the fan on for him and he stopped (at least I think he did, I passed out).
I'm just worried because he never does this. He also hasn't been eating normally for the past 2 days. He normally wolfs his food down and now he just isn't as excited about it. He eats a little and leave about half in the bowl.
Does anyone have any advice about this?
Re: In need of advice!
If it was just the crate concern, I would have said it could just be a puppy thing. Even if you have a routine it doesn't mean that the pup wants to try something new so to speak. Just like a kid a pup will test it's limits.
But you meantioned the change in appitite. Have you fed him any table food recently? I noticed a change in my pups habit when we didn't give her table food for a few nights (and yes...table food may be a no no for some, but that's how WE role..lol).
If it keeps going for over a week I suggest visiting your vet. It may be nothing, but it's better to check than to worry about your fur baby.
Let us know how it goes.
Thank you for the advice. I keep Cooper on a pretty strict diet because he has a sensitive stomach. He gets diarrhea when he is fed soft dog food or table food (actually anything out of the ordinary). However, I made him some homemade dog treats on Sunday and I think they upset his stomach. It has definitely crossed my mind that this might have something to do with his appetite change. I stopped feeding them to him after I saw his loose BM on Sunday.
That actually could have been the reason. Bella is a year and a half now but when she was young and I gave her something out of the ordinary (she wasn't given any table food until she was about a year) it would affect her for about a week. Hopfully you will see a difference soon.
