Chicago Nesties
Dear Community,
Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.
If you have questions about this, please email help@theknot.com.
Thank you.
Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.
Christmas time volunteering
DH and I want to do some volunteering during the holidays. We live in the Lakeview area and would like to something that's not too far away from our area. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Re: Christmas time volunteering
My husband and I have been involved with the Cathedral Shelter of Chicago's Christmas Basket program for about 7 years now and we love it. You can "adopt" a family or senior for the holidays and provide them with gifts and/or you can volunteer to help distribute the baskets to the families. The shelter is located 1668 W. Ogden and all the familes go there to pick-up their baskets. They can use volunteers to check-in the families, manage the warehouse, load the baskets into cars, etc.
The program is run well and it really is focused on families in need. We have volunteered on the registration end as well (during the summer), and familes are required to show proof of income, birth certificates/medical cards for the children, etc.
You can find more info at http://www.cathedralshelter.org/volunteer/opportunities. Marilyn Knilans is the Christmas Basket program coordinator. If you have any questions or want more info, let me know.
