Getting Healthy and Losing Weight

I haven't been on this board much recently, but I am going to try and be more active. I had a baby 8.5 months ago. When I got pregnant I was about 140 pounds but then I gained about 50 pounds while I was pregnant (I was crazy retaining water). I am now back to about 140 but I feel like I could and should lose more. Plus, I still have the loose skin on my belly. I am a stay at home mom and I pretty much always have the baby with me so I am looking for ways to exercise and try to lose weight but be able to do it with a baby. I don't really want to join a gym since we are trying to save money too. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Getting Healthy and Losing Weight

  • Well they say weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise, so I would start with focusing on your diet. Try to eat as clean as possible, and join a website where you can track what you eat (myfitnesspal, livestrong, or sparkpeople are great ones).

For exercising, start out with just neighborhood power walks with your DC in a stroller (or carrier if you'd prefer). If you have a jogging stroller you could also start running or do the c25k program. You could get a few free weights and do weights at home, or if you have OnDemand cable there are a number of free exercise videos.

  • I agree w/ PP on the 80/20% thing. That is so true.

As for workouts, I have to suggest Jillian Michales 30 day Shred or Ripped in 30... I honestly like RI30 better than the 30 day shred! It is a great work out and only about 24 minutes. You can do it while your baby naps!

  • HI, I am also a stay at home mom and I take super long walks every day.  DD sometimes seems a bit tired but doesn't want to nap so, I get her a snack put her in the stroller and walk and walk and walk.  Yesterday we walked for an hour and a half.  4.5 miles.  DD fell asleep for an hour of it.

I have a city mini but I bought a baby trend expedition stroller ($98, target).  It has a tray and a parent consul.  I love it for walks because it is easy to push and steer.

Also, the more you are out of the house, the more you are out of your kitchen and then less you are snacking.
