Small Vent

Yes, I am well aware that I can make my own cream of whatever soup, but sometimes convenience is more important than home cooked goodness.

Shame on me for asking the What's Cooking? board on advice about which of cream soup to use...I should have known that the appropriate response to my question was to make my own.

  • IndifferentYou don't make your own! Well, I don't know if any of us can be friends with you anymore now that you've earned yourself the Campbell's Soup scarlet letter. Wink

To actually answer your question, because yes I went to look at the post, I think cream of broccoli or mushroom would be best.

  • They can be so silly over there at times.  They crack me up with their self importance...just because you have a food blog doesn't make you a domestic goddess.  I applaud their efforts, but not their judgement.

Hey, I like to cook, and can appreciate the time & results that come with cooking from scratch, but not every meal has to be 'gourmet'.  I have time & budget constraints! Especially when working all day...I just wanted something to nibble on while drinking a few beers with my cousin after work.

  • Oh come on...don't you have a dairy in your backyard that sells organic, grass-fed cream that you can use to make easy 1-2-3 soup!?!?!  Stick out tongue

And yes, I agree with you...sometimes convenience trumps all (despite my food blog link below with only 14 posts for 2012).  Yes

  • @Erbur - I love a good food blog so I'll be sure to check yours out.

I think my real issue is the Nestie who first replied...I see her on What's Cooking, Entertaining, and Fashion.  Most of her responses to posys are uppity. I'm pretty confident that we wouldn't be friends in real life.

Is it Friday yet?  Work is so slow this week!!

  • SJU- don't feel bad.  I have never in my life made soup or sauce or baked goods from scratch.  I mean, I get how logically it probably is healthier and tastes fresh, etc., but I just can't fathom taking hours and 1000 ingredients to make what I can buy in a can fairly cheaply if I shop sales.  That, and I am being 100% serious when I say that I prefer frozen meatballs and jar sauce to anything I've ever tasted "homemade" before :/

  • They can be super douchey over there.  I sporadically post and find that I'm ignored almost always :)
  • What I find humorous is there's a mindset that "it's SOOOO easy, why would you want to use canned/jarred/boxed stuff?"

Let's be real here. Cooking is not always easy, and can be perfected after trial and error. And yes, once you get your timing/recipe down right (and that could take several attempts), it does become easy. But until then, cooking requires one's concentration and time. Both of which are precious commodities in life and have their limitations.
