Brown mascara doesn't work for my dark brown eyes.  I use the blackest black that I can find.   For eyeliner colors, you also have to factor in your skin tone.  I have very fair skin and wear an emerald green or a chocolate brown eyeliner mostly. Charcoal grey works for a smoky eye look for evenings.  My best friend has dark brown eyes but has golden undertones in her skin.  She wears olive green and bronze eyeliners most often.   I don't know what color mascara she uses.

Eyeliner, I would suggest getting both the Urban Decay travel sampler eyeliners. All the colors look great with brown eyes. There are a couple of dark green and plum colors that are knockouts and on the neutral travel one, the Stray Dog color is gorgeous too. I love them and they make my dark brown eyes really pop. There is only one color I haven't worn and that's because it's more of a bright pink color that is probably best suited for going out but the others, I can wear daily. The plum color is probably my favorite though.

 

As far as Mascara, I only use black.

Lancome has a new deep purple for fall 2012 and the definicils has a deep brown mascara so I might try those.  I was using Benefit Yes They're Real mascara but it takes a lot to get it off my eyes and I don't like waterproof mascara so I wanted to try something else but I can't remember if I've tried Lancome and liked it or not!

I have brown eyes as well. I wear glasses occasionally. I love black mascara and black liner, but adding a blue or purple shadow really makes brown eyes stand out! sometimes i even wear a neutral shadow with my black liner and mascara and then add a sweep of a purple or blue shimmering shadow right under my liner on the bottom. Gives a dramatic look and super easy and quick to do!
