Do I need an architect? Should I contact the town to find out what permits I need or will the contractors do that? This will be the biggest project we've done so I'm not sure. No you do not need an architect unless you are doing major changes to the actual structure of your home. Your contractor and kitchen designer are (should be) more than trained and qualified to do the work needed.
If we want to get the interior of the house painted at the same time, which do we do first . . .the rennovation or the painting? It seems dumb to paint the kitchen then tear it down & with an open floor plan, I'm not sure I want living room walls exposed to construction debris & possible marring when applicances are delivered. I'm thinking rennovation then paint? Paint later!
Approximately how long does a complete kitchen rebuild including subfloors take? Can we live in the house during the project or do we have to move out? The time frame is to have it finished for Thanksgiving. Is that realistic? Once you have selected your Trades people/person and have made finish selections, Cabinets can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks to order (order once a final measuremennt can be done, after framing, rough plumbing, rough electrical), typically during that ordering time, you have floors installed and drywall and all that fun stuff. Depending on layout, cabinets can take a few days to over a week to install, once cabinets are installed, countertops are measured, they can take anywhere from a few days (stocck laminate) to a couple weeks to be fabricated.
You can live in the house, just stay out of the way so things move faster! Plan on eating out and grilling a lot!
