Free Websites?

Hi there

I am trying to find a way to have a personal website for my side business, but I currently do not have a lot of funds to allocate to having someone build it for me. I am currently using Facebook, but finding that there are many people who don't have FB and cannot locate me and my services unless that person has a FB account. So I need to get out there in the world electronically. I am certain that there is something out there for me as a good starter, but I would like to know from others what some of them are. I found Webs , but know nothing of it.

Re: Free Websites?

  • Might I suggest Yahoo Small Business for around $3/month (based on a year)? You can find free sites like yolasite.com and others but they would put your business into subdomains making your site unattractive. If this is truly a business website, you want to at least spark a professional online presence and as a business expense is tax deductible. You can skimp on a lot of things but not the website. If the business can't generate $3/month in profits to pay for the website, it's quite honestly more of a hobby than a business. Facebook is a good addition for marketing but not a replacement. There are things that scream "you get what you pay for" and a website is a perfect example. The software for yahoo small business is easy to use. I use the Site Builder. Once you have your site up, get it registered with search engines. You will want to be found in order to start paying for the site out of profits instead of out of pocket.

  • Not sure what your small business is, but how about a simple blog?

  • Thank you both.

I am a makeup artist, and I have a FB site for my work, but I need a professional website to showcase my work, and advertise clients. Not everyone has FB, so I need to get a website up and running and a very low cost. I will look into the Yahoo idea. Thanks!

  • Maybe you can try a free tumblr website.  You can buy a custom url from anywhere (godaddy, yahoo, etc.) for about $10 so that your url will not include the tumblr name.  You can create different pages and add photos to your site.  I'm in the process of designing my online graphic design portfolio, so you can see what I mean (I haven't redirected the url to my custom domain name yet).
