Daycares

Hi all! I've been frequenting the bump boards for a while, but they're pretty dead, so now I'm here!

Anyways, I'm pregnant-due oct 20. I'm just starting to look into daycares for when I go back to work in January. I've found a few centers, which look appealing, does anyone know about them? Cost, programs, etc? I'm also open to private in home day cares if anyone has any recommendations. Thanks!

Re: Daycares

  • When I was looking a year and a half ago, the price difference was pretty big between a daycare center, and in-home (in-home being the cheaper).  Like.....$60-$70 per week difference, and we decided it wasn't worth it for us and looked for an in-home daycare.  We ended up finding one we really liked who ended up being an old friend of SIL, which was kind of nice.  We have since moved on (she didn't renew her license) and I found an awesome one on Craigslist surprisingly.  I looked on Daycare.com too.

  • Here is a good resource. http://greatstartforkids.org/connect/

We did home daycare until the kids were 2/3 (almost four).  The home daycare was nice in the beginning because  it was smaller and more personalized.  And cheaper! However, she really didn't have any structure. By the time the oldest was 2.5, I was ready to send her to a center for more structure, but we held off a little while longer due to costs.  If I could do it over again, I would probably have switched to a center by age 3 at the latest, unless the home daycare had a structured day and activities set up.
