Need help: Just found out preggo!!
Hi ladies,
I haven't been on here in forever, but I remembered how helpful everyone used to be to me on the knot so I thought I'd give y'all a try!
I just found out that I'm pregnant...YAY!!!.....and I need recs on a OB/GYN. I live in Orenco Station in Hillsboro so I want something semi-close to here if possible. I'm really nervous and kinda freaking out so whoever is the best in your eyes! Please let me know!! TIA!

Congratulations!!!! First things first, start taking a prenatal vitamin NOW. Go to the store right now, today, and buy some. You can get them for $5. Many women take the Target brand. I personally took the Costco ones (Nature's Brand or something like that) or if you have trouble swallowing pills, it's 100% ok for you to buy "Flinstones Chewables WITH IRON" and take TWO of those daily. You don't need to buy a brand name or prescription prenatal unless your Dr says you need one, or if you have special health concerns. But the first trimester is when your baby is forming the spine, bones, eyelids, all organs, etc, and proper vitamins are ESSENTIAL to it's growth.
I don't have any rec's for Hillsboro, but the way I found my OB, was to start with my insurance company, and they had a website that listed all of their practicioners.
Do you know the date of your last period? It's pretty normal that most Dr's don't see you until you are between 8-10 weeks. The first visit is usually a pap, a lot of blood tests, and basic "don't do this" lists of things to avoid. If you don't know when your last period was, or if you had long/short/funky cycles, then the Dr may refer you to get an ultrasound done to see how far along you are.
Don't drink, don't smoke, wear your seatbelt, and try to relax as much as you can. You may get VERY tired soon, that's completely normal. Most people don't tell their employers and extended groups of friends until 10-12 weeks, or after you hear the heartbeat. The risk of miscarriage goes down substantially after that point.
If you don't have inusrance, you can go to Planned Parenthood and they will see you on a sliding scale basis. The office in downtown Beaverton is nice and clean.
the "First Trimester" board is really helpful, but try not to take it too seriously. Some of those women stay away from all kinds of food, are VERY careful, and to be honest, you don't need to do most of that. Just remember, use common sense, and everything in moderation.
Please feel free to ask me any questions, I will help in any way I can!
I remember you! Congratulations! I don't have any recommendations for an OB in the Hillsboro area, since I went to OHSU. But I've heard good things about St Vincents (near 26 and 217) and that wouldn't be too far for you. Unless you don't have a car, then it might be tough to get there.
And what Jen said. Start taking PNV's asap. You might also check out the Portland babies board.

Congratulations! Good luck to you on a happy and healthy pregnancy!
I'd like to recommend my OB's office, I see Dr. Trina Brodsky at Women's Healthcare Associates. Her office in located across the street from St. Vincent's Hospital at the intersection of Highway 26 and 217. When I found out I was pregnant my primary doc's office recommeded WHA and their office helped me decide on Dr. Brodsky, although there are tons of awesome doctors in her practice. They schedule your first appointment after a certain number of weeks (sorry I forget how many) but they also set you up with a "welcome to the practice" intro meeting so you learn more about what to expect with the practice and your pregnancy. I found it very helpful. I hope this helps you and again congrats and good luck!
