Back to school blues

This is the first time for me that I'm not going back to a classroom or a school. Working in child care, the school year just brings less kids. It's so sad. Oh well, pity party done.

Since WI's education system is getting messed up with all that is going on with the government, I'm looking into getting a teaching license for a different state. Any suggestions to bring up to H?

Re: Back to school blues

  • Apparently, the top 10 states to teach in (meaning, they need teachers) are North Dakota, Alaska, Illinois, Florida, Arizona, Conneticut, Alabama, Arkansas, Texas, and North Carolina.

As for best paid... In reverse order: Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Alaska, Illinois, Maryland, Conneticut, New Jersey, California, Massachussetts, and New York.

  • I'm so sorry you are having the back-to-school blues. I know it would be hard for me to not go back. I would recommend checking the states around you first. Some of them may have very similar requirements for licensure as your state.  Does your DH want to move?  I teach in Tn, and a lot of teachers in the Chattanooga area teach in Georgia because the pay is better.  Would that be an option for you?

I feel ya on the state government messing around with education. We've gone through so many changes in the past year, and I just found out I get to give my first graders the Stanford Achievement Test.  I can't wait for this let's test to death phase to be over!

  • Sorry you have the blues! Hugs :)

Thank you. H is fine with moving, and I'm located on the boarder of 3 different states, but  they all have an abundance of teachers. All the openings I applied for had over 800 applicants. Plus, in my state, a lot of schools are down sizing now and having bigger classroom sizes, (it went from 15 kids to a class to about 30 now) which makes it even harder. With school starting today,I just really felt blue

  • MrsJWoodJr, you can come take over my class to help your blues! :)

My first graders would probably love it!
