So I went for my first run. Can't say I loved it...but can't say I hated it either. It's something that I want to do at least twice a week. So I have some questions for you runners out there
When you were new at it how many days a week would you go and how many minutes each time?
What do you eat after a run? I love doing my workouts as early as possible so I have my breakfast afterwards. But I am not sure what counts as a post workout meal. Mornings are the only times I have to really get in a good workout.
Do you have specific gear you run in?

I just started running, well jogging really. I have a physical fitness test at work and the distance is 1.5 miles. Yesterday it took me 17m 55s and today I was at 17m 25 s, but jogged consistently without stopping. After my jog today, I walked four miles with a friend.
I made a protein shake when I got home and that seemed to be perfect for me
I'm pretty new at running too, but I like to run at night so I can't really speak to a good after run snack. Sometimes if I'm super hungry I'll eat some almonds or something. I like to have a banana beforehand for fuel.
Great job on starting running! I felt the same as you when I started...I could take it or leave it. But it's become a real stress reliever now and I'm sad when I can't get out (like right now I have a cold and it's raining).

At the beginning, I went about 3 times a week for about 20 minutes at a time. I've built up to about 4K and I do it in about 35-40 minutes depending on my warmup time. I do this 2 times a week and do a shorter run for the 3rd.

Good job on getting into running. When I first started running, my goal was to hit the pavement at least three times a week (twice during the work week, and once on weekends). I didn't really have a set time/distance, I just ran until I felt like I was done. I suppose it usually came out between 2-3 miles each time.
As far as gear goes, I first started out in Nike shoes that were horrible for my feet, so I went to the running store and got fitted for a pair of Asics. Went through quite a few pairs of Asics before recently switching to Saucony Kinvara 3s, which are a lot more minimalist, which I love. And for clothes, I HATE running in anything baggy. Even when I first started, I never wore t-shirts or baggy shorts. I love the Champion line of sportswear at Target, it comes in a lot of fun colors and styles. Their running capris and tank tops are my favorite.

I'm an avid runner (no marathon yet, but I'm close). When I first started running, I celebrated being able to run for .5 miles. I had been working out beforehand, but I hadn't ever really jogged or ran. I tried to do it at least 2 or 3 days a week when I was new (now I run 2+ miles everyday).
What I eat varies. Sometimes I don't eat anything. Sometimes I have a banana. Sometimes I make a protein shake. You should aim to get 2 grams of carbs to 1 gram of protein, but try to stay at or below 200 calories. A banana and a tbsp of PB is great (if you can eat both of those). A banana is right around 90 and a tbsp or peanut butter is 85-100 calories. Another GREAT choice: chocolate milk!!! It is a highly recommended post-workout "snack".
I break all the running "rules". They say to wear moisture wicking clothes... I don't! I wear mesh basketball shorts, a sports bra, a cotton muscle shirt (aka a 'wife beater tank'), and my vibram barefoot runners.

I am also new to running. I started using the couch to 5K program, because I knew running was something I wanted to try. I also do not know if it's my thing, but I am going to keep working at it. What is fun, is knowing your time and then trying to beat it, even if it's only by a little bit!
I am not sure if it's the best thing to have after a run or not (I am still trying to get everything figured out), but I was always told that you should have something with a good source of protein. In your case, maybe a morning shake or smoothie after your run would workout.
Don't push yourself too hard, worst set back would be an injury! Enjoy your runs!
