Hey!, i'm looking for some advice on buying a gift for my husband's commissioning into the Army. He's been in for 4 years now and is going into the transportation branch as a 2nd lt.
I really want to get him something meaningful, maybe if there's any traditions in gifts? I'm really priced for money though
My husband and I have been having a really rough time. On top of that, we share a bank account so he'll know that i'm buying something for him and i haven't even asked him if there was anything he had wanted because he would just say not to get him anything and prob. get mad at me for spending money on him . . .
Soo i'm looking to do something that's under 25-30$ max. I'm also an artist, i was thinking about making him something but i've already drew/painted him numerous things that just kind of lay around the house, i think i've killed that gift giving idea of making him something unless one of you have a really awesome idea that could work.
Please let me know your opinions? I was looking at reproduction civil war officer's compass that's made of brass because my husband has just decided to start a civil war collection but idk if that would be kind of lame to get a reproduction. . . . . thoughts?
Thank you!!!
Re: Buying a gift for my husband's commissioning?
Last time someone asked this with similar income restrictions, I suggested she make a butter bar cake. Like a pound cake with gold frosting to look like the rank.
I wouldn't get him a repro if he's getting into legit collecting. When I was attempting to join the Marine Corps as an O, my father got me a 1961 USMC field manual. It was such a great gift.
Something like this, "E39. OFFICIAL ARMY REGISTERS [1868, 1869]- Valuable Indian War/Civil War reference listing every officer of the U.S. Army (regulars) during the turbulent period as it was "downsized" to a total of 37,000 following the Civil War. Lists for all officers- name, current rank/date of rank, highest brevet or volunteer rank, initial service date and subsequent promotions, state in which born, and state from which appointed. List recent retirees, and casual-ties/disability losses. Current duty station shown for most officers. Every regiment's date of formation, subsequent battles (sometimes even at company level) is listed. Well indexed, easy to use. Have three- dated January 1868, August 1868, January 1869. All neatly bound with marbled board covers and green leather spine and corners. Covers have neat gold-embossed label "Army Register/ [Date]/ Major Wm. B. Rochester/ Paymaster, U.S.A." Bindings show considerable use and some torn spots. Contents good, with period notations showing Maj. Rochester's interest in changes in seniority. First two run about 165 pp and other is 225 pp. $110.00 each or all three for $300.00 Reduced $85.00 each or all 3 for $200.00"
is $85, but I bet if you looked around you could find something more in your price range.
