Did You Love Michelle Obama's Speech?
If you watched the Michelle Obama's speech at the DNC last night, what did you think?[Poll]
Re: Did You Love Michelle Obama's Speech?
I'm listening to her speech right now. She's such a smart, inspiring woman.
I teared up a little when she described Barack checking every few minutes to make sure their babies were still breathing
+1
She not only hit the ball out of the park, I think it is in orbit by now!
Is there someplace online where I can watch it?
I love Michelle Obama and think she is an awesome FL.

Thank you!
And we have a "Hated It"
Waiting.......
Tick tock
(For the record, I actually want to hear the explanation - no snark, no sarcasm, I'm legitimately curious)
Me too, honestly.
I think "being poor" could be relevant because it shows a connection/shared experience/empathy for a large population of the US.
I think we can agree that the Romney Family as poor is a bit more of a stretch than the Obama Family.

Well, for me, personally, I do not care. That doesn't tell me you know how to fix these specific problems we have right now. Also, I am married to a soldier and neither family has any military related experience whatsoever, so even if I was poor, that aspect of my life is much more important and relevant. As far as it being a stretch, Obama is not "poor" or middle class by any stretch of the imagination. I wish he would stop pretending he isn't a millionaire.
Unless I missed something, I don't think that's his rhetoric - being poor now. On the contrary, he talks about how Federal programs helped raise his status. He acknowledges that he makes more than most Americans (while in the same breathe acknowledging that he should pay more in taxes).
Not to drone on about it, but I think that specific talking point is relevant to his platform because he doesn't want to cut programs that would help others to raise their economic status.

For my husband and me, specifically, he does want to cut programs that help us and he has given the lowest military pay increases since the 70's. While I agree that everyone needs help sometimes and some programs are necessary, I do not believe that programs that benefit military families should be cut. There are a lot of expenses the DOD could cut and should cut, in my opinion, but I do not believe pay for enlisted soldiers is one of them. He also has the nation believing he ended the war in Iraq when in fact, I know several friends who are there now or are preparing to go there. Calling it a non-combat mission doesn't change that we are still there. So, my personal situation is a little different than the general public. I don't agree with republicans trying to fight the rest of the worlds wars for them but I know first hand that Obama has not been good for me. Getting back to the original point, Obama and Romney are both more than rich. Obama says federal programs helped him, Romney says a free market helped him. So....? What I get from that is you are both rich and I don't believe you when you say you lived a lifestyle anything comprable to what I do. And I do not know why I can't get the quote box to work!
The combat mission in Iraq is over. He's not tricking anyone. There are infrastructure building troops, some SF I'm sure, but the combat mission in Iraq is over. It is NOTHING like saying "Mission Accomplished" after 6 weeks of fighting in Iraq.
The Bidens' son Beau was an Army officer. Jill Biden made that her personal mission. Mrs. Obama has been to our base (Marine Corps) several times.
Do you not realize that every federal worker besides service members have had pay freezes for the last few years? I am grateful my husband gets a pay raise at all, and BAH increased by like $200 where we are. Don't be an entitled military family. He gets a raise at all, and he and you should be grateful. Military spending, for better or worse, is the last thing to be cut. My husband has a job. He gets paid for it and he loves it. He got a raise this year. My parents, who are also gov't employees, haven't gotten raises in 4 years. My H would never say he deserves it more than teachers or other gov't employees. He is compensated for what he does. You really want the 5% raises of the 70s when no one else is getting raises in America? You think your family is that special? Sorry dude. There are a lot of military families, and our husbands' jobs don't make us any better than anyone else.
Thank you for this.
My husband is former military and we were much better off financially when he was in. We could be getting ahead so much more than we are now. As much as I know he made the right choice to get out after serving 8 years, there are times when I miss how good we actually had it.
She also worked her butt off to get 125,000 veterans hired by corporations. An effort that has not been made a priority until this administration. Originally the goal was 100,000. She not only exceeded that goal, but she did it a year ahead of schedule and is continuing that fight. I'd say that has helped MANY, MANY military families and is far more than a "hug".
Giving raises doesn't cut deficits either.
You somehow think enlisted service members are entitled to raises when no other federal employees are. That's entitlement. And we don't need to play the shot at game. My husband was shot at 5/6 days a week during his most recent deployment and he's gearing up to possibly go again. This is a volunteer military, and he gets hazardous duty pay. He gets hostile fire pay. He gets FSA. He knew what he signed up for. This is an all volunteer military, and most of the people who are currently AD are doing a lot better than they could have been doing with just an HS diploma, or prior to 2008, a GED.
Coffee, neither Obama grew up "poor." How do you explain the private schools? Barack was taken care of by a grandmother who was very well-off and a bank VP. He attended a very elite school in Hawaii. Michelle attended an elite school as well.
I voted "meh." I felt the personal details were a bit much. I didn't like the Romneys in the kitchen making the pancakes, either. I lost a lot of respect for Michelle when she told women in Zanesville that they should get out of the corporate world to go into the helping professions. Easy to say when hubby's a millionaire. It struck home because a school I attended was not that far from there. It's not the wealthiest area.
Michelle grew up middle class. Her mom was a secretary and her dad worked for the city water plant. She went to public schools up through high school graduation. She attended an elite school thanks to financial aid, including student loans.
