Let's talk kid poop...

When Parker wore diapers he religiously pooped twice per day. Then, the day he decided to potty train himself, he decided he would poop as infrequent as humanly possible.  He is not afraid of the toilet, and he will go to the bathroom on it, no problem.  However, he only poops maybe twice per week...three times at best (on a good week).  I know this is TMI...but, when he goes, it's a TON.  At first it is "regular" poop...but, by the time he is done, it is pretty runny.  It's making me think that we should do something about this.  Maybe give him activia or something every day and see if it will make him poop more?  I'm afraid to do prune juice because his poop is so runny at the end.  What would you do?  The only reason I'm thinking of this is because he is starting school tomorrow.  I would totally hate for him to have a 15 minute pooping session in school.  The whole issue of wiping can take another post (I am currently wiping him as there is no way he can do it).  Is this an issue, or am I just making it one and I should just leave well enough alone?

If you made it this far...thanks.  I'm sure I said "poop" more times than I care to count.  LOL

  • I don't know the answer to your question as mine was a frequent pooper while in diapers and now, thankfully, is down to a pretty reliable 1x/day.  For me, that would be a call to the pediatrician if I wanted to intervene.

But what is it with little boys and wiping?  I feel like mine is going to be happy for me to do it as long as possible as he has zero interest in learning to do it himself.

  • My dd is the queen of pooping issues since about 7 months old.  and Since potty training she has been doing the same thing as your ds.  I serously have no idea how all that comes out of that little girl.  The pedi said it's not good for their little bowels to have such a big movement so she has been on a daily dose of miralax.  If you don't want to go to something like miralax, just make sure he eats lots of fiber.  Stay away from "white" foods (white flour, white potatoes...)  as they will bind/constipate.

  • DItto lala.  B was daily to every other day in diapers.  Now she's every 2-4 days over the past few weeks...then it's hard and painful so I asked our pedi yesterday and we are adding a small amount of daily miralax and titrating to around a BM per day.
