I found both the former Bain Capital employees and Sandra Fluke to be very powerful. I'm really looking forward to Bill's speech.
What have your favorites been?
Re: DNC Speeches Tonight
Even Kirsten Powers was offended by Sandra Fluke's speech and its presentation of women as these silenced victims. Very disempowering.
I find the contrast between Condi Rice and Sandra Fluke very striking. They both spoke at the same time. It says a lot about the parties. Condi Rice has great accomplishments and formidable knowledge of issues. She was a provost at Stanford, Sec. of State, and national security adviser. She also fought to the top amid a climate of segregation. Then you have Sandra Fluke talking about how powerless women are; she has no great accomplishment that would lead a reasonable person to put her in the same prime tv hour as a former president and current VP. She's most famous for whining about how taxpayers should pay for her friends' birth control.
It's really amazing. They had to go with Sandra---they didn't have any female politician of note? But I guess it makes sense because as Taranto says, she's a potent symbol of the 'Julia' of the DNC ads, needing government at every turn.
I didn't find her speech dis-empowering at all. On the contrary, I think she sent a clear message that we, as women, can choose the next president. We have the power, if we choose to use it, over our own health care futures. We don't have to allow it to continue to be debated amongst the people in power with no uterus.
I also am proud to be a part of a party that actually wants regular, private citizens involved in their platform and political process. There have been several female politicians of note to speak. Also allowing someone that represents their constituency doesn't discredit or devalue them.
Damn, I missed Fluke, I'll have to YouTube that.
Shes still fairly young, and has accomplished plenty for her age.
I think basing the comparison between Sec. Rice and Ms.Fluke on the shared time slot is a bit of a stretch. If the DNC framed Ms. Fluke as her equal that is one thing but that is not the case. I agree with you about Sec. Rice's accomplishments but I do not think the DNC was treating Ms. Fluke as her "equal".

Just kidding!
I did feel bad for Obama having to wait for Clinton for 50 freakin minutes.
I found Sandra to be whiney. I was hoping for a giant muzzle to attack her.
Cats, I find you to be whiny.
And lol at Clinton being perverted for liking blow jobs. I don't agree with him cheating on his wife, but I hardly think that makes him a pervert. Also, that has nothing to do with him as a politician. We'd be lucky to have another president like him. He's a big part of the reason the 90's rocked.
Also, this sounds like one of Ann Coulter's tweets. Jeezus, who the hell talks like that?
This is not accurate at all. When Fluke appeared before Congress, it was with regard to private insurance- coverage that individuals and employers pay for. She was not advocating that the government provide free birth control with your tax dollars. Stop being dishonest.
This.
Him getting a BJ from someone other than his wife had zero impact on the state of the country.
Only half???
AB/Julie you have some serious issues with Sandra Fluke. Did she have an affair with your husband or something? You seem to have this vicious personal vendetta against her.
If Rush Limbaugh hadn't decided to attack her on his show, nobody would know her name. She would have been just another in a long line of people who testified before Congress on C-SPAN. So you can thank Rush for the elevated position she's gotten.
You can also thank Rush for the stupid-ass misinformation regarding what exactly she was testifying about. For an example, see AndrewBriebart's yapping about her wanting the gubmit to pay for her friend to put out.
Clinton was responsible for the Housing bubble - forcing banks to lend to those who otherwise would not qualify for a mortgage (Janet Reno threatening IRS intervention if they did not) . That led to banks selling those mortgages, the development of deriviitives ---.
I blame Clinton for the encouragement/condoning the coarsening of American behavior.
I think character counts in our leaders.
I partially agree with this. Clinton did not work in a vacuum however. Both sides of the aisle were helping him out on that one.
I also think character counts. Someone getting a blowjob in the Oval office, preying on a young employee for sexual favors (as well as others subordinate to him), and not honoring the vows he made to his wife is not someone I can respect.
I voted for Clinton the first time. This is why he did not get a re-up from me.
You guys realize that Clinton probably wasn't the only president to get a blowie in the oval office?
He's just the first one to get caught.
We obviously have a disagreement. They put her in the second most prime slot of the whole convention. Thursday night would be the most prime (right before Obama). They had Sandra Fluke in the hour in which all the networks covered the speech, preceding a senate candidate and a former president.
They wanted everyone to see her, and the publicity was out of proportion to her accomplishments. Why didn't they show a Democratic female governor who is doing very well? Maybe there isn't one. The only Democrat female governor I can think of is Beverly Perdue, I think, and I only know her name because she made a very dumb gaffe a while back. Why not show a female senator who has been working on bills/laws for women's rights?
I find her persona very tiresome as well. As Monica Crowley quipped, "They took out God, but brought out the Church Lady."
At least the good news is that if Scott Brown survives this election, he won't have to run during a presidential election year again. He's a likable guy and popular; if he doesn't win, it's only because it's a presidential election year and turnout is higher than it was during his previous election.
I have disdain for Sandra Fluke because I think she's a parasite and a fool. I think she has a lot of audacity whining on about how birth control is so expensive when it never was THAT expensive, plus she and her ilk have been very privileged.
I don't know why you would say something like "did she have an affair with your husband?" That was a dumb attempt at a potshot.
The funny thing about the Clinton speech is that just four years ago Obama was calling Bill Clinton a racist, and now he's calling on him to save his bacon. The bad time management pushed Bill further into the evening when some people on the east coast may have been getting ready to go to bed. The number of viewers was relatively small.
Wow I agree. It was terrific.
Exactly what I was going to say.
I also think its misleading to say he had to "prey" on women. I'm sure those women were just waiting for an opportunity to blow the president. I'm NOT calling them sluts or anything, just saying, I doubt he had to woo them.
