Couch to 5K

Just started this yesterday! My sister and I :) Have any of you tried to start running this way? I'm crazy sore, and should you stretch before or after? or both???

Re: Couch to 5K

  • I did it two years ago - wonderful program.  I really started enjoying running because of that program.

I stretched before running.  One more sore days, I would also stretch afterwards.

Don't try to blaze through the program - I was sure to run on alternate days.

Don't try to run faster than you can.  You should be running at a speed that allows you to finish the time intervals.

Don't freak at that first 20 minute long run.  You can do it!

    Enjoy!

  • I think I should be running slower because when im on the running intervals it's like im dying LOL. And ok, thanks :)

  • I generally stretch before and after exercising, and I think I heard somewhere about how stretching after is much more important (when my whole life in gym class we'd stretch before).
  • right, like some people say before and other people say only after because your muscles are warm....so ig before and after huh-covers all the bases lol ?

  • I am on week 8!  It's been great for me, and my 5k is coming up too.  Stretching really depends on you, I prefer to do it after because i'm warmed up and it's much easier for me to do that.  However my running buddy likes to do it before.  So totally depends on you!

  •  I have started this process too! I had only got 3 weeks in before I found myself involved in my very first 5K! I ended up walking/running that race, but even then I was happy with my final time. I am looking forward to my next 5K! (I have to beat my time!)

I think the program is good. Remember to pace yourself, the speed will improve later. Have fun!

Yes run slower! Your body needs to adjust and speed will come later. C25k will get you going without injury if you run slow and only go 3x a wk like it says! I started it in March and now run 3x a week for 3-3.75 miles each time. You'll get there! Keep it up!
