Random question for Republicans

Just a thought I had while reading the DNC speeches thread...

Do you guys like/respect Rush Limbaugh?

What about Glenn Beck?

I know just because you're Republican doesn't mean you like every Republican person in the world, I'm just curious.

Re: Random question for Republicans

  • Can I tag on the question, what do you think of Jon Stewart?  Stephen Colbert?

I think they're hilarious, but I also totally agree with them.  I was curious what a conservative would think of them.  (justAphase - I hope I'm not thread-jacking)

  • My dad is hardcore Repub and growing up, he always had Limbaugh's show on in the car for roadtrips. Ugh.

I think Limbaugh has taken a turn into crazytown.

Nope, I like this additional question!

Sookie- I was forced to listen to A LOT of Rush growing up. And my parents are hardcore Beck fans. Ugh.

  • Since no one is answering, I will answer for my mom who is a die-hard conservative.  She does not like either Rush or Glenn.  She finds them to be scary and give Christian Conservatives a bad name.  She also thinks the Tea Party does the same.  She hates how they have hijaked the right.

I told my dad and bro Beck was a giant, crying sissy. They said, "I watch Beck every night and I've never seen him cry."

To which I replied, "Clearly, you don't watch him every night. Any time I have put on that man's crazy, he's in front of that effing dry erase board, or he's crying like a biitch."

We have fun discussions in our house. lol

  • I'll play :-)

     Rush = Whackado

Glenn = Whackado w/some heart. The convoluted conspiracy theories make me crazy though.

I love Jon Stewart and like Stephen Colbert a lot.

I can't discuss politics with my parents. Maybe my mom, but my dad is impossible. He just gets angry that he didn't raise a child to think exactly like him. It's pretty much be how I imagine arguing with Glenn Beck in real life would be, really. Except more threats about not giving me x-mas gifts, lol.

  • My ILs are ?ber conservative.  They like Beck, but can't stand Limbaugh.  They won't watch Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert, but I think that's more of a generational thing.

I have said before that Beck is the smartest dumbass I've ever seen. I don't doubt his intelligence, he is just INSANE.

    Rush - never cared for

Beck - I actually did watch some of his shows on fox and think he is a really smart man.  BUT I couldn't always keep watching them because I would end up getting depressed thinking if what he was talking about would really happen.  I do like him as a person though

  • I don't like Glenn Beck at all.  He gets on my nerves.

This thread seems to be a way to insinuate that Republicans are not thinking on their own; they're getting talking points from a leader.

I think that many Republicans hear similar beliefs on policy on the radio and feel happy that commentators are saying to a mass audience what they have been thinking.  A lot of animus toward talk radio in general is because the mainstream media no longer has its monopoly and cannot impart insular liberalism without challenge.

Do you like Stephanie Miller and Bill Maher?

(I'm not going to make you "own" everything they say.  Trust me, I know that that just works one way.)

I never watch them, finding them irrelevant. There are a lot of conservative talkers that I do not care for, such as Sean Hannity, and others that I really like to listen to, like Michael Medved.  I sometimes listen while I am doing other things like cleaning or grading.

  • I find Rush entertaining. He's gone too far a few times. He is not my source for news. Sometimes he's a jumping off point for me to do my own research, because his perspective is pretty unique.

I actually began listening to him when I was still voting Democrat during the Clinton years because everyone was bitching so much about him. So, the Democrats can blame his popularity on themselves. :)

Beck-hmmm. I think some of his stuff can really be a bit "out there". He must not sleep to come up with all his white board stuff.

I also found his show depressing. It makes you question everyone's motives and not in a good way. If there is that much crap, inbreeding and back-scratching going on the Democrat side, I am sure there is just as much going on in the Republican side.

I have also been entertained by Jon Stewart and used to really like Bill Mahr and his 'Politically Incorrect' show, until he went and called Palin the c-word. NOT COOL.

It's the exact opposite.  Asking you insinuates that you may or may not like what they have to say.

I really didn't mean to insinuate anything. Which is why I said in my OP that I understand not everybody is going to like or agree with everybody in the party they associate with. I was just curious.

I'm just meh on Bill Maher. I think he's said some ridiculous stuff, but he's made me laugh on occasion. I don't watch his show.

I don't know who Stephanie Miller is either. Googling now.

  • I'm a democrat.

I have despised Limbaugh since I was a teenager. I think he's a disgusting man and a VERY poor role model for anyone. He takes things way too far.

I actually used to like Glenn Beck in the pre Tea Party days. Then, he went wackadoodle.

I LOVE Jon Stewart. I like Colbert a lot, but his show does get on my nerves sometimes. Every now and then, he'll have a guest on his show that I REALLY want to listen to, but his silly character talks over them and I don't feel like I got the substance I was hoping to hear.

I do watch Bill Maher's show, because I like to listen to what issues they're debating, but I don't like Bill Maher. He's the liberal Limbaugh.

I also don't like Rachel Maddow.

  • I can listen to them but I don't really agree with everything they say with reckless abandon.  I think they can be very radical.
