Did you like Bill Clinton as president?

Did you like Bill Clinton as president? Yes or no and why?

Re: Did you like Bill Clinton as president?

  • At the time?  No.  Because I was a kid and my parents told me I didn't like Bill Clinton.  Clearly it was sound reasoning.

  • I was really too young to have an informed opinion.  I thought he was interesting and my life was pretty good.  His presidency was certainly entertaining.

Looking back, I really do like him and what he did in office.  But hindsight is always 20/20.

  • I was only in H.S. then, but when the biggest complaint opponents could make stick about the man is that he couldn't keep it in his pants, I'd say the economy was doing fine.

    So, as a leader, yes.

Lol. This exactly for me too. But really, the 90s were way better than the 00's. I know it's not solely because he was president, but I would vote for him now if I could.

  • I think I was 12 when he got elected.  My parents voted for him and from what I could tell from them, he was a good president.  I'm going to sound really lame here but what I remember most is reading the Star article detailing out all of that stuff that happened with Monica and giggling about it with my best friend.  Also, I think he started a deduction on taxes for parents with college age kids that live with them.  Not sure the specifics, but what i could gather they were able to deduct my college expenses on their taxes and got lots more money back every year.

  • My parents are very conservative voters and so I heard nothing but bad about Clinton.

Personally, I'm holding out for a HRC run in 2016.  Go Hilary!

That would be awesome.  I'm also secretly hoping that Michelle goes the Hilary route and becomes her own politician when her husband is done.  But given her disdain for politics, I'm not holding breath.

  • Enh, I know too much about Rwanda and our ignoring of the Genocide Convention with him as POTUS to want either him or his wife (who claims experience from his administration) as a leader. I voted for Obama in the primaries because I felt like he would be more likely to adhere to the GC. Most people aren't voting based on their feelings about genocide and our responsibilities about it though, so politicians don't care either.
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • I was too young but let me tell you I'm jealous my sister and BIL graduated college in 1997 when jobs were practically being thrown at them!

  • at the time? Yes and No. I voted for him for his first term and then against him the second term. I thought he was self serving and really cheapened the presidency with his personal scandals. He was not hard enough on terrorism and the 1st world trade center bombing. Looking back though, I like some of the things he did in terms of his self-serving nature really forcing him to capitulate to those who disagreed with him because he wanted so much to be liked. As a result, he ended up riding close to the middle on some things to make everyone happy which might be all we can hope for sometimes in our two party majority system.

    This exactly.

Looking back, I think the economic success of his years of service was a combo of the dot-com boom and that he did a very good job. I would have liked him were I older and more able to understand such things.

I voted for him1st term and not the 2nd.

Everyone remembers the "good old days" of his presidency because all our 401k's were making tons of money.

It's the the dotcom bust that happened the last 2 years of his presidency that everyone either seems to forget or were not old enough at the time to understand the impact. He seems to have selective memory on that as well. All of that "prosperity" was just on paper.

We stopped opening our statements. My sister's retirement savings took a 60% hit and has still not recovered.

I give him kudos for having to compromise and getting some stuff accomplished with the Republican Congress. But I have no desire to see another Clinton in the White House.
