Married....meeting friends?

My husband and I have been married for a year.  We had a great couple that we spent time with but recently they divorced and moved away.  We live in the KC area so we thought it would be easy to find friends but we go to a small church community and there is no one our age. We aren't into the bar scene anymore and just want to find some people to hang out with! How do we do that?

Re: Married....meeting friends?

  • I know its difficult. My husband and I actually live in NY and we both find it very difficult to make new friends. What has worked for me is reaching out more to some married co-workers... inviting them happy hour etc.
  • Do you not have any single friends? Just because you are married it doesn't mean you have to only have married friends. Maybe a single friend with a boyfriend?
  • Maybe try cooking classes? Or fun adult education classes (H and I took golf classes together at the local college and met some wonderful people)..local beer/wine food tours? I'd suggest getting out in the community more or volunteering for a cause you both believe in. :)

Sorry that most of my jokes are borderline inappropriate. And by sorry, I mean you're welcome. Cait_S

  • Volunteering is amazing! My husband and I moved to the Oregon Coast in June, not knowing anyone. Volunteering at community events and with a non-profit out here are how I met all of my friends and our "couple" friends. Also, joining a bible study or couples' small group (even if it's one outside of your small church) is a great way to meet couples. Hope this helps! Good luck!
