Just what I needed-more mommy guilt

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Depression/mothers-depression-linked-shorter-children/story?id=17174578

So now my kids are going to be short because I had ppd.  I'm not sure how scientific this study was.  No where does it mention genetics.  My kids will likely be short because dh and I are both short.  One article also suggested that mom's with ppd couldn't meet the daily needs of their babies and therefore the child's health suffered (making them short).  I know there are different levels of ppd, so this sounds like a vast generalization.  I think I went the other way.  I was so paranoid.  Is she breathing?  Is she eating enough?  Is she ok?  And my kids are both over the 50% for height.

  • It sounds like this "study" has so many holes in it.

I seriously wouldn't give it even a second thought and, frankly, I'm peeved that money is being spent on studies like this (like, really, this is released based on studing 6500 kids??? and what kind of inchage are we talking about - is it that bad if a kid is 1 inch shorter than he/she should have been? Is the kid's life over b/c of that?!)

Next thing you know, I'll be told that my kid being a head taller than the rest of his classmates (not to mention 10-15 lbs heavier) must have been because of me being too happy after he was born (which is totally not the case) and not because my husband and I are both tall and I have always been a "bigger" woman.

Why not take that research money and put towards finding a cure for childhood diseases?! Grrrrr....
