Society's slow downward spiral...

I just started one of my classes today and when I first got there, the door was closed, the lights were off, and there were about 15 students waiting outside. I joined them outside the room for a few minutes assuming the door was locked. Well I walked up to it, asked the kid guarding it "this might sound stupid, but did we ...try the door?" and it opened. Someone said in a we're-so-stupid fashion, "oh my god." I flipped on the lights and everyone filed in. I was the Common Sense Hero. Lol :-)

Anyone else Common Sense Heroes lately??

  • That happened to me over the weekend. We were helping a cousin move. These two guys were working on removing a window unit air conditioner. They were just about to pull the unit out when I said maybe we should turn it off and unplug it before moving it any further. Really?

  • On a side note, anyone notice that kids working at cash registers today cannot make change.  My total was 11.52  I handed the girl 21.02 and I thought her head was going to explode.

To be fair, when I get called up to ring at our store, I depend on the cash register to tell me what the person's change it, simply because usually when I get called up to ring there are long lines and I'm just trying to get everyone through the line quickly. Plus I've never been good at doing math in my head quickly - numbers were never my thing, and I'm 31 now and it still takes me a minute to figure simple stuff out, heh. I can, however, figure out 20% of any total now, simply from ringing up coupons at our store. :)
