Re: When are you no longer a Newlywed?

  • I say 5 years just because (sorry to be a downer), the most divorces happen within 3-5 years of being married...so I think if you make it past that point, your not a newelywed.

I agree.  Those first 5 years are the key.  Half the people are still in the happy phase, the other half are in the "Oh crap what did we do" phase.

  • I can see that. Seems like most people said after a year...and honestly I'm feeling like an old married couple!! But we are definitely still NEW! :)

    This!

  • I don't think the label "newlyweds" has to do with divorce rates. It's based on how recently you were married. Etiquette says one year of marriage.
  • And congrats on the ONE year anniversary Wink

  • My parents just had their 41st anniversary last week and still act like newlyweds.

H and I still get called newlyweds after 3 years.

My vote is you're a newlywed as long as you feel like one.

  • I used to wonder this too.  I've been married for over five years now and it's only been until recently that I no longer feel like a newlywed.  I was used to thinking that my wedding was only a year or two ago and then I've realized that a few years have gone by.  My husband and I are still very much in love and our relationship has improved.  I didn't think it could get better since I thought it was good to start with.
  • Thank you!!! :)
