help with dress - black tie optional
What would you wear to a black tie optional wedding in november where the bridesmaids are wearing knee length?
Links or pictures would be awesome!
Re: help with dress - black tie optional
My friend just asked me this today, and I told her something more designer but still short. I really can't pull out full length dresses post-prom lol This is the one I was going to lend her: http://media.photobucket.com/image/stella mccartney heidi montag/Fashion_Critic_/2009/April%202009/c2rheidistella.jpg
I think the bride is confused on the definition of black tie if her BMs are wearing knee length. I've heard on here lately about people saying black tie just to mean "please don't dress like a schmuck," so I'd confirm that the venues and invitation really command black tie. (After going to a nice Catholic wedding 2 years ago in Wash. state and seeing somebody wearing overalls, apparently the various dress codes are being downgraded as people lose their common sense and wear unthinkable things ("if she said black tie, I guess that means no jeans, Elmer")).
The dress pp posted is too sexy for me, so I'd be more likely to wear a satin sheath dress in a jewel tone or something like this or this.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
Gah! I was recently invited to a wedding with a similar issue- the invitation said black tie so I found (and purchased) a full length dress to wear and then was told by my mom that my dress was too fancy since both the mother of the bride and mother of the groom were wearing short dresses and the bridesmaids were wearing full length gowns with FLIP FLOPS. Black tie and black tie optional mean just that- not the bride's definition of what she thinks black tie might be.
Rant aside, I would find something short yet refined as the posts above suggest. Go for something with exquisite material, cut and fit and you'll be good to go
If you do decide to go the shorter route try to find something classic you really love that can be worn again on birthdays, graduations, other celebrations, etc. Get a little more bang for your buck in the cost-per-wear department. (For the record I'm liking this one, this one, this one or possibly even this one...not sure what your style is, but BHLDN has a ton of cute stuff!)
Black tie means tux for your husband and a formal gown for you. If the bride wanted dress wear she would have 'formal attire'
The first dress is NOT approp. for a blk tie optional affair <<serious side eye>>
I vote for what ever want that you look hot it! Nothing informal, nothing promy...
I'm a sucker for black and simple

For a black tie optional event last December, I wore a version of this dress in navy silk with navy peau de soie and rhinestone shoes and a rhinestone clutch. DH was a groomsmen in a classic charcoal suit. The bridal party wore cobalt blue.
