Parkway North

Holy snap, my 25 min commute has been 60 mins for the last 2 weeks.  Does anyone know when they are going to re-open the ramp to the Blvd of Allies???  Or when the both lanes (6th and 7th ave) will be "normal" again?

Re: Parkway North

  • The project says its supposed to be complete Fall 2012 - whatever that means!  Not sure if that is the 6th street or just boulevard.

You can get on an email list for info through penndot- email jstruzzi@pa.gov & put "subscribe 1-579" in the subject line

I'm lucky I am northshore and can come in through 65 or northside.  The parkway is a mess!

  • Originally, I had heard from one of the bus drivers that it's supposed to be done by the end of September (not the whole project, but the part they just started doing a few weeks ago, I don't know what the exact names are).  fingers crossed!!

  • i am contemplating a rogue trip down the HOV lane tomorrow.  Crossing my fingers that there are no cops.

  • The ramp is suppose to re-open on the 29th. A lot of people must be using the North Side as a detour since traffic was ridiculous this morning.

Although I am sure that the city thinking it is a great idea to replace curbs at 7:30 in the morning and blocking streets with a cement truck hasn't helped either.

The ramp to the Blvd or the ramps to downtown?

To town. The Blvd is suppose to be the end of October I believe.

  • Thanks!   Only 2 more weeks of morning hell :)

  • Don't even get me started. I've been taking the most roundabout ways these days (ie: dumping me in the Strip) on the mornings I have the kids' routine. I leave Cranberry at 7:25 and don't get into my office until 8:45 at the earliest, really. It's such a mess.

My colleague's husband is a part of the night crew working on the Vets bridge and she said that he has said that they are not close to being done. *sigh*

As for the HOV - I have been so tempted, but someone has told me that while they aren't stopping anyone on the HOVs, there are some mornings the cops are at the end of it by the Arena, pulling people off. I didn't see anyone there this morning and was cursing I didn't chance it. LOL

I'm trying it tomorrow, I will let you know how it goes.  One of my girlfriends rides it single almost every morning for the past 2 years with no issues.

  • I'll admit, I'm an HOV rider - usually home though since I can go 65 now to work.  Usually when there are cops out I get word or at least I have been lucky.  I'm of the opinion that when there are construction issues like this they should open it up to everyone.

Clare - a coworker coming from Ellwood City does this:

gets off at Camp Horne, makes left anda another left by Giant Eagle to go back road to Bellvue/West View, back on 279 and off again at Perrysville (apparently she can skirt around the standstills), then right off Perrysville exit, down Perrysville, left before Perry High School, down to East Street and then into northshore.  You can also go Perrysville to Ivory Avenue down to East Street.

She said it keeps her moving.

HAHAHA I do the Perrysville trick - today was my 2nd time; last week it saved me no time whatsoever; this morning was better.

So, Sheila, a 25-week pregnant woman does technically have more than one "person" on board, right? (I have been thinking of this way too much, as you can tell!)

I've also had a friend take the HOV 5 days a week (in and out) for the last 2-3 yrs with no problem. I just know the day I take it, without someone, will be my day I get busted.

I've done the HOV coming out of the city during snowstorms and standstill traffic. I've been caught once going into town (almost 2 years ago) and had a $125 fine. *sigh*

  • Virgin appearance in the HOV lane = success!  it was magical... just had shaking hands and sweaty palms for the first few mins.  and a healthy dose of catholic guilt.

Clare - the friend I mentioned above was pregnant for during her stint in the HOV lane, she was convinced that she'd argue her 2 passenger condition in court and win, and call KDKA if she had too. HA!

  • I almost hopped in today but wasn't in a rush so decided to stay on Perrysville to Federal Street and come in that way.  Got behind a bus but otherwise not terrible for a rainy morning.

Yea Clare - I'd totally argue the 2 person thing if I got caught while pregnant!

HAHA my colleague did it, too, this morning - of course I can't imagine any cop would want to stand in the torrential downpours of this morning to hand out citations!

I figured I could technically win it, too - I would probably just have to get an attorney through the Diocese to fight my case!
