Wedding Near Ohiopyle

This is the same wedding I posted about last week - thanks to sundaygirl, I ordered a few new dresses from Lands End. Hopefully one of them will fit well and work for the wedding. I?m waiting for my order to arrive.

So, the other complication to this wedding is that the invitation discourages kids from coming to the ceremony, but they are welcome at the reception. The reasoning is that the ceremony is on a cliff, so it is apparently a safety concern. Honestly, my kids listen well enough that this doesn?t really concern me, but we plan to honor the wishes of the couple, especially since my kids will have more fun at the reception anyway. (If it was a wedding for friends, we would get a sitter. But it is a family wedding and we don?t see DH?s family enough, so I don?t want the kids to miss the chance to see aunts and cousins that they like.)

The plan is to drive down to the Ohiopyle area together and drop DH off for the ceremony. Then the kids and I need to find something to do for an hour or so until the reception. Hiking and biking is out since we will be dressed for a casual wedding?maybe a playground or a picnic? WWYD?

  • Since you'll be all dressed up, could you do a fun photo shoot?  You could have them model and play for the camera.  You may even get a Christmas-card worthy shot out of it.

ETA:  You could even have them help you scope out locations.  Drive around and be spontaneous about where you stop.

  • I grew up in Farmington and my family lives there still.  Nemacolin Woodlands has a zoo of sorts that is on property, I believe that is is free, they have a lot of animal, we always drive around and look at the animal. They also have the Wildside with games and bowling for the kids it is fun.

This is what we did when we went to a wedding in Johnstown and had a BIG gap between the ceremony and reception. (wedding at 1, reception at 5)   The wedding was at UPJ, mine and DH's alma mater, so we roamed around campus and took some family pictures.  It was great.  We also went to the mall and had something to eat to hold us over until dinner at the reception.   I would stay away from ANYTHING that might get the kids dirty - parks/picnics, etc.  Unless you don't mind much.  (I did so we didn't do anything dirty).
