Friday night I had a great night of sleep. My dogs were very well behaved and let me sleep in until 8:30am (normally they start getting loud at 7:30 to go to the bathroom).
Saturday night we went to a friend's house and didn't get home until 12:30am. We let our dogs go out, played with them for a few minutes, then put them to bed. They started to scratch on the door (we put them in a separate room), but I ignored them thinking they would go to bed. At 2:00am, they start howling, so we give in and let them come in with us. The first thing my puppy does is pee on the floor, since she was excited (not because she had to go). So we were up cleaning that up, then put them back in their room. At 7:00am, they do the same thing. So I just got up and stayed up.
Last night we put them in their room and our smallest dog started scratching on the door and whining, so we gave in and let them all come in our room. I think our small one is feeling neglected because he doesn't see my H much anymore (he leaves early in the morning so the dogs only see him after work and before bed for a few hours). They were so well-behaved all night.
At 4:00am I woke up with super cramps...I got up, went to the bathroom, and took some Pamprin. Then I went back to bed. At 5:00am I woke up because the meds still hadn't kicked in, and at that point I felt like throwing up. Then I woke up again at 6:00am and 7:00am when H got up and when I was supposed to get up for work. So I got no sleep..
On my way to work, traffic was WAY worse than normal and it took me 20 minutes to get 1 mile to the freeway on-ramp. I almost ran over a jaywalking pedestrian, who gave me a deer in the headlight look and didn't bother trying to speed up to get across (and it's a busy 4 lane highway). Then I was making a left turn onto the road, and a lady pulled out in front of me from the other side of the road, forcing me into the other lane, so I had to speed up to get around her so I could turn right at the next light. When we got to that stoplight, she started yelling and "scolding me" for who knows what, since she's the one that cut me off...
It just isn't a good start to the week...I still feel like throwing up and can't concentrate, and I have to be at work for 6 more hours...
Sorry for the vent. I needed to get it off my chest.
Re: So tired (Vent) :/
I would like to suggest that you crate your dogs. Crates aren't "punishment". In time the dog will become accustomed to being in the crate and it will be like a den for them. I would start by crating them for small periods, when going to run out for an errand etc. NEVER as punishment. Crates should be a safe place for the dog. Give them their favorite toy, treat etc. Your dog cant scratch at the door if its in the crate. You will most likely see an increase immediately in "howling, barking, whining" Buy some ear plugs! Over time the dogs will give up and grow accustomed to the routine. Most dogs will give up the barking by the end of the first night, some maybe a few days.
Im so sorry about your bad morning/night!!! You deserve a NAP
I have 3 dogs. 2 German Shepherds and one Australian Shepherd. We are the alphas they follow. Our dogs don't move until we do. We put a lot of training in and it takes time and patients. But there are happy and so are we. We also go for long walks every day. When dogs are bored they start digging and scratching etc. They need rules like kids, indiscipline and of course lots of love to.
Okay now I am sounding like the Dog whisperer.
