S/O Toddler Sleeping - time in Crib after nap

We are fortunate to have a video monitor in S's room, but sometimes it makes me neurotic.  I always look in on him from time to time when he naps, and for the past few weeks, I'll see him wake up and start moving, but not cry to get up.  (When he cries to get up I usually get him as soon as I can.)  He'll play with his Scout puppy...he'll lay...he stand up, then lay down.  Sometimes its 30-40 minutes til he calls out for me.  I can hear/see all of this on the monitor, but of course he doesn't know that.  If I didn't have these things I wouldn't know he was awake.  I still wonder if I should get him sooner.

How long do you let your LO's play in the crib when they wake up from a nap?

  • as long as he wants to!  Sometimes I will hear Eamon cry but then go back to sleep, get up & talk & then he'll play with his mobile for a bit.  Usually when he gets bored he'll cry & not stop & be ready to get out.

  • I leave Liam in there until he cries or starts yelling in the morning, if Jake is still sleeping. we dont have a video monitor, but there have been times when i've heard him babbling/playing, which will go on for a little while, then he falls back asleep.

This minus the older sibling:) She'll chatter, babble, giggle, even fuss sometimes, but a good majority of the time she goes back to sleep.
  • No need to get him until he calls for you. He's fine and you get an extra 30 minutes. Win, win!

  • DD used to do that! DS not so much. Enjoy it and don't feel guilty -- he's happy and he's developing the ability to entertain himself independently!
