stay at home mom but still want to be stylish

what are some good basic pieces for this fall? I'm a stay at home mom so I'm looking for a more casual look. Thanks!

Re: stay at home mom but still want to be stylish

  • Any kind of cropped, drapey tops are in style. I have a couple cropped sweaters, one has long sleeves and the other has half sleeves and I put tanks underneath. Also, vests are cute, long flowy ones, they can close or hang open and just a cute top under them.

I know that bootie heels are coming back again too. I haven't found any I really like yet but plan to invest in a pair ;) and some darker lipsticks, like plum colors!

  • My favorite things in the fall that are comfy for baby chasing are flat boots, belted cardigans over simple tops, ballet flats, etc. It was hard for me to realize that my wardrobe did have to change a bit while chasing an extremely busy toddler. But...thankfully, there are lots of cute, comfy options. :) If you are willing to wear skinny jeans, loose fitting sweaters, skinny jeans, and flat riding boots are a simple option. :)

  • Any kind of boot is cute IMO! I have like 12 pairs (ok I'm exaggerating a tad bit) but I just LOVE boots. I really want some flatter over-the-knee boots again, I flat out wore out my last pair!

And belts are cute too, I'm just so bad at accessorizing!

  • I really like colored jeans because you can wear a muted top.  Definitely flats, skinny pants, and a looser top.  Have a go-to trench that you can throw over everything, too.

  • I know this is cheesy, but when I was getting GOOP emails (I quit since they were typically absurd) Gwyneth Paltrow wrote about how she has a kind of 'uniform' - skinny jeans, boots a slightly flowy top and a cardigan if necessary.

I would do some research both online and in your own closet to find out what you feel most comfortable in and where that intersects with what's in style. At that point, I would buy more of what lies in that intersection and make that your "uniform" - if you love wearing flats, find some glitzy ones to dress up your 'everyday' jeans. If you love to wear color, get several pairs of colorful jeans as others have suggested. Essentially, find a way to wear practically the same outfit every day but still mix it up. You'll look put together, and you won't have to think too hard before heading out to take the kids to the playground.
