Okay to wear?

I have a black and white dress from WHBM and was planning on wearing it with a black cardigan to a wedding reception coming up.  It is my best friend and it is her second wedding - we are not going to the wedding just the dinner/party after.  It is her second wedding and they are getting married in her parent's backyard (just for more info if it matters).  The dress is black with white designs and is strapless.  I plan on the cardigan because it is outside in mid to late October.  I will either buy some new black peep toes or something similar.  Is a black and white dress ok for this?  If anything it will likely be too dressy but I do not want to be underdressed.  The dress is definitely more black than white.  I have not yet gotten the invitation to know how formal/informal it will be but think it will be more informal for sure.  Her Pinterest board was casual chic by her definition.  thanks!
