Interpreting Test Results
Hi Ladies - I need help - my mother was diagnosed today with Breast Cancer - I have a few of her labs back from the pathologist but need help interpreting what they mean - can anyone help with this? TIA

First, I am so sorry about your mom. I hope she will remain strong and that her journey will go smoothly.
As PP said, her doctor would be the person to talk to. I will suggest though that you get onto the national cancer institutes website and search the publications for a book called "What you need to know about Breast Cancer". It is free to order, no shipping charge, and is a good book to start with. Another option would be going onto Amazon or to a local bookstore and getting "Dr Susan Loves Breast Book" or "Breast Cancer for Dummies". Both books are recommended by the breast cancer patients I work with.
Also find out if there is an oncology patient navigator or social worker through her hospital or in your area. They will be a lot of help with every aspect of the cancer journey. The American Cancer Society is also a good resource. They offer a great class called Look Good, Feel Better that your mom may be interested in if she goes through chemo or radiation. It helps with makeup, skin care, hats, scarfs and wigs.
Good luck and feel free to message me for any other tips on finding resources. I work at a cancer resource center, so I know of a lot of really great resources available to patients. Just out of curiosity, what did the pathology say?
