wedding dress rehab

I just got married in July and I LOVED LOVED LOVED my wedding dress!!!! The way it fits it's tight and then flares out at the knees (similar to a mermaid dress) and I would love to cut it and dye it black and wear it again. The style and cut of the dress it would be totally possible. But where on earth would I be able to get that done that wouldn't cost me as much as the dress??!!!!

Re: wedding dress rehab

  • It may be easier to just buy a black dress in that style. Not all wedding dress fabric is dye-able and alterations can rack up the cost quickly.

  • I totally agree. Alterations in themselves are going to be outrageous unless you know someone that can do it for you that knows what they're doing.
  • When dying any garment you have to be totally flexible when it comes to the results. The type of fabric is going to impact the color and how well it is absorbed. A dye color can look totally different in the bottle (& in mind) then when it is applied ot the fabric; while the fabric may not absorb any color at all. Any stains that are present on the fabric before the dye will still appear after the dye is applied; dying a garment doesn't mask the stains - they will still appear a different shade then the unaffected areas! All of this should be kept in mind before deciding on dying a garment! You should always have an unexposed area or sample tested before dying a garment to see the results first!
