Hello ladies! I'm day 2 into my first yeast infection and I'm supposed to be going to Chicago tomorrow with my DH for a really fun (and expensive) vacation. We're able to post-pone the trip but we really don't want to. I am taking a 3day monostat to get rid of the yeast infection, but seeing as how tomorrow morning (SUPER early) we're leaving, I dont see this being much better that fast I was MISERABLE last night and this morning. We're going to be doing a LOT of walking around tomorrow.
For those of you who have had yeast infections....can they really get better in a day? What would you suggest? The cream that comes with the monostat doesn't help much and I took a few Tylenol, is there anything else I could be doing to make the pain/itching more bearable? TIA!
Re: Yeast Infection--help!
Perhaps controversial, but I'd try garlic. I've used it a couple times with really bad infections. You actually insert it vaginally. I think you're supposed to wrap it in something so you don't "loose it", but I never did - I never had trouble finding it again. I'd leave it in there for a few hours (don't remember how long exactly), and feel a lot of relief almost immeadiately.
I'd go ahead and use the monistat tonight too. Don't use it and the garlic at the same time. Also, they do make anti-itch wipes and creams...they haven't worked much for me, but they do help some folks. I'd go on your trip. You might not feel 100% tomorrow, but the next day you should be feeling a lot better. At least in my experience that has been the case.
I used to get frequent infections when DH and I first ditched the condoms. He was actually treated with an oral anti-fungal, and I haven't been infected since. Just a thought if you get another one anytime soon.

Is there anyway you can see your doctor or at least get to an urgent care center tonight? They will probably perscribe Diflucan. You only have to take it one time (pill form). It will help clear you up in 24-48 hours. Personally Monistat has never worked for me. I find it to be messy and uncomfortable and it's never helped my yeast infections.
In the mean time have you tried the Vagisil wipes? They will help with relieve some of your symptoms.
Diflucan is the brand name for the medication fluconazole. It can be used to treat several different types of fungal infections and is commonly used to treat yeast infections of the vagina, also called Candida vulvovaginitis. You can read this article: http://www.clinictime.net/How-Long-Does-Diflucan-Take-to-Work.html from clinic time: http://www.clinictime.net/
