kitchen wall color

Hi! Lurking from the bump :)

Looking into painting our new kitchen, which happens to have a blue/gray (more bluish) countertops.

I was thinking a darker plum or a gray.  I realize gray is really trendy right now, but I have a lot of decor from my old kitchen (includes alot of italian/wine themed decor) with a lot of reds/plums/beige.

Most of the other wall in the house/main floor are beige toned, so I wanted to switch it up.  Any recs?  I'm willing to be open to any suggestion, I'm just trying to avoid buying all new decor.

What color are your kitchen walls?

Re: kitchen wall color

  • A gray would look really good with your decor, although combined with your countertops it may be a little too dark. If you did an accent wall and left the other walls a neutral color,  the accent wall would play on your decor and your kitchen wouldn't be boring.

Our kitchen walls are a mustardy yellow. I don't care much for the color, but it's what my husband had before we got married, and he spent a lot of time on it (he did something to add texture to the walls). We have a lot of Tuscany themed decor, and with that it's really not too bad.

  • I like the idea of gray on the walls, I think with all the reds and plums already in the kitchen, it may be too much of one color/shade.

What color are the cabinets? That'll make a difference as well. Do you have any photos?

Our walls are beige because it was a new construction home, so every wall in the home is beige. I would love to paint it but most rooms are cathedral ceilings and would be way too much work and not worth it. We aren't staying here for too much longer due to lack of space. Our countertops are also a blue/gray tone.

  • Your cabinets play a big role as well!

My Kitchen is SW Downing Stone-a blue/gray.  I love the color!  A great plum is SW 7630 Grapy, it is on the gray side of plum, which, I think with all the beige walls would be a nice contrast without looking out of place.
